Ellon traveled to Kintore without Cobus Huisman and Scott Middleton for their biggest game of the season so far against the 2006 Aberdeenshire Cup Winners. On losing the toss Ellon were asked to bat.

Ellon were immediately on the back foot when Craig White was caught and bowled off the 6th ball of the match but Ellon did regroup first through skipper Charles Wolrige-Gordon and Scott White putting on a good partnership for the 2nd wicket before Wolrige-Gordon was caught at square leg off the bowling of Petrie.

Jon Barrett batting at an uncustomary number 4 slot joined White at the fall of the 2nd wicket and was soon racking up the runs with a series of cut strokes. Both were putting the bad ball away before White was caught and bowled by Russell Balsillie for 23.

Leon Borstlap came and gave the innings some impetus but he departed after scoring a quickly compiled 25 when he was bowled by Roy Walker. Chris Watson and Peter Bigley became Colin Laird’s 2nd and 3rd victims before the key wicket of Barrett was picked up when he was caught at slip by Dougie Anderson off the bowling of Andy Petrie for 54.

Andy Parks, Kenny Hutcheson, Ross Wade and Alan Scott combined to get the score up to 150 and the way Kintore have been batting lately it was thought that this was a competitive total.

Scott White got the Kintore off to worst possible start when Dougie Anderson played on to a ball which he was good enough to get a bat on but after this nothing went Ellon’s way.

Kintores’ new faces Ryan Irvine and Dan Finucane saw Kintore to their target despite Ross Wade, Leon Borstlap, Jon Barrett and Chris Watson were all introduced to try and gain another breakthrough but although chances were created none were taken and
Irvine finished on 69 not out and Finucane on 54 not out.

Scott White was Ellons’ most economical bowler finishing with 1 for 27 from 12 overs while Ross Wade’s 8 overs went for 25 and Chris Watson’s 6 overs went for 20

Ellon only picked up 9 points so a big improvement will be required on Saturday when Ellon travel to the Links on Saturday to play Bon Accord.
